AI Finance Implementation Daily | 2026-11-02

This issue only includes new materials that can be broken down into inputs, machine boundaries, and human sign-offs. Close maturity slogans, FP&A software rankings, and reporting platform launch releases are not expanded. Two actionable items are highlighted: a reconciliation working paper process and evidence retention for AI-assisted numbers.

This issue only includes new materials that can be broken down into inputs, machine boundaries, and human sign-offs. Close maturity slogans, FP&A software rankings, and reporting platform launch releases are not expanded.

Today’s Most Actionable Items (2 items)

1. Reconciliation Working Paper: Classify Differences First, Overdue Items Must Escalate, Models Prohibited from Closing Books

  • Scenario: Accounting / Close. Input = general ledger balance for a specific account + corresponding details (bank statement, sub-ledger, or intercompany balances). The machine only performs classification, aging analysis, and escalation recommendations; it does not prepare journal entries or close the books.
  • Actions: This week, take only one already-closed month and one cash account. Classify unreconciled items by warehouse dimension into three categories: timing differences (1–5 business days, will clear automatically, no adjustment), items requiring adjustment, items requiring investigation. Aging: 0–30 monitor, 31–60 investigate, 61–90 escalate to supervisor, 90+ escalate to controller, consider write-off or adjustment. Threshold examples (must be adjusted to your company’s materiality): single item >10,000 reviewed by supervisor, >50,000 reviewed by controller; any unexplained difference, regardless of amount, cannot be closed.
  • Review Controls: Preparer produces the working paper, accounting reviews, controller signs off on unreconciled and escalated items. The warehouse note states: this is assistive, not a financial opinion; only qualified finance personnel may sign after review. Personnel must not alter bank or general ledger figures to “force balance.”
  • Deliverables: Adjusted bank/GL reconciliation, unreconciled item classification table (item, amount, start date, aging, category, status, owner), escalation log. Zero journal entries posted to the books.
  • Source: anthropics / knowledge-work-plugins · reconciliation|Repository created 2026-01-23, latest visible commit to skill content 2026-03-13, repository code push 2026-11-01|Nature: repo / reconciliation skill template, not a client production system. Same directory contains voucher preparation, close, and SOX sampling; this item does not create a new entry.

2. Before AI-Assisted Numbers Leave the Door, Retain Five Sets of Reviewable Evidence

  • Scenario: Internal control / Audit evidence. Object = management figures already processed by a model: variance explanations, board package excerpts, reconciliation support, verbal numbers provided to management.
  • Actions: This week, select only one previously issued AI-assisted number set (one variance explanation suffices). Supplement evidence according to the five questions in the article: who can view/edit/export; which version is the approved version; which standard was used; where the numbers come from and how calculated; who reviewed and how exceptions were closed. For AI-assisted numbers, also retain: source data version, calculation formula or query, standard, operator, prompt, actual output adopted, available model/tool version, review and edits. Numerical calculations must be reproducible from retained inputs and rules; reliance solely on “ask the model again” is not permitted.
  • Review Controls: Finance owner responsible for standards and approved version; system/security owner manages permissions and logs. PCAOB staff observation standard cited in the article: source data and AI-generated content must be auditable; users are responsible for the work and working papers. Sentences without retained evidence must not enter board packages or be issued externally.
  • Deliverables: One-page evidence checklist + attachments (source table version, prompt, adopted draft, review checklist). Zero journal entries posted to the books.
  • Source: Datarails · Five Controls for Financial Data Governance|Source page dated 2026-10 (material date 2026-10-29)|Nature: vendor material / control checklist, not a completed attestation for any specific entity. KPMG/PCAOB/audit committee references are citations from the article and have not been independently verified against originals.

Accounting / Close / Controls

See Today’s Most Actionable Items item 1. Reconciliation: Classification + Aging + Unexplained Items Prohibited from Close

Closed loop: General ledger + bank/sub-ledger → machine classification and escalation flagging → human only signs off on unreconciled items and adjustment recommendations → reconciliation package. Can connect to production posting of general ledger: Data unavailable.

FP&A / Planning / Reporting

Data unavailable. This issue contains no new production cases that can be broken down into tables and standards for budgets/forecasts/board package production. The quantity-price decomposition template in item 1 repository can be used as reference (must reconcile back to totals after decomposition) but is not listed separately. Item 2 only addresses “whether this AI draft has supporting documentation,” not the root cause of variances.

Treasury / Cash / Risk

Data unavailable. This issue contains no new production cases that can be broken down into bank transactions, 13-week forecasts, or payment authorization gates. The cash account reconciliation in item 1 stops at the reconciliation statement and does not extend to cash allocation.

Tax / Compliance / Audit

See Today’s Most Actionable Items item 2. Five Sets of Evidence for AI-Assisted Numbers

What can be copied is the working paper fields, not tax conclusions. New production cases for tax research, filing standards, or formal SOX testing working papers: Data unavailable. The SOX sampling template in item 1 repository can be used for next week’s experiment but does not constitute a completed internal control test.

CFO / Leader Team Building Experience

Data unavailable. This issue contains no publicly disclosed sharing by named finance leaders that can be broken down into division of labor, review processes, or metrics. LinkedIn data unavailable/authentication not passed; job title snippets are not substituted for facts. Vendor dinner minutes are not used.

Open Source / AI Engineering Reference

See Today’s Most Actionable Items item 1. Reconciliation Skill: Classification, Aging, and Escalation Thresholds Written into File

What can be copied: thresholds and escalations hardcoded in the skill file; output is a working paper, not a chat; sign-off column belongs to humans. Do not treat general plugins as ERP reconciliation modules; thresholds must be adjusted to your company’s materiality.

Pending Verification Leads

  • LinkedIn data unavailable/authentication not passed. No new startup headcount reduction recruitment pages that can be cross-verified this issue.
  • Vendor FP&A rankings, Claude connector releases, close maturity self-assessments, and reporting platform conference materials contain only slogans or product features and are not treated as best practices.

This Week’s Small Experiments

  1. Historical Reconciliation of One Cash Account (Owner: Accounting; controller samples unreconciled items) Input = prior month already-closed bank statement + general ledger cash balance. Walk through only the three categories of unreconciled items + aging table. Gate: any unexplained difference must not be marked “closed”; items over 90 days must have controller sign-off. Zero journal entries posted to the books.

  2. Supplement Evidence Package for Previous AI Variance Draft (Owner: FP&A; finance leader samples 3 sentences) Input = the already-issued draft + source tables at the time. Archive according to the five questions in item 2. Gate: any 3 sampled sentences must trace back to source table numbers and approved standards; sentences where prompt and adopted draft are inconsistent must be deleted. Do not re-issue the board package.

  3. Empty Template for Sampling Working Paper of One Manual Control (Owner: Internal Audit or Accounting; controller reviews template only, does not send externally) Input = one manual control from an already-closed month (e.g., reconciliation completion sign-off or voucher approval). Produce only the control matrix, sampling methodology, and empty test working paper. Gate: sample logic clearly documented; conclusion column left blank for later completion; not submitted to external auditors.
